1. Acceptance of terms
By creating a Handyout account, uploading a presentation, or sharing a published handyout, you accept these Terms and Conditions and the linked Privacy Policy.
If you use Handyout on behalf of a company, university, or other organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind that entity to these terms.
2. The service
Handyout converts presentations (PPTX and similar presentation formats) into mobile-first handouts that you share with an audience via QR code or link.
We provide hosting for those handouts, an editor to refine them, and analytics on how audiences engage with them. The service is offered as-is and may evolve as features are added or removed.
3. Accounts and access
Access to your account is authenticated by magic-link email OTP or Google sign-in. We do not store passwords. You are responsible for the security of the email inbox and, where applicable, the Google account you use to sign in, and for activity carried out under your Handyout account. Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse the platform, or remain inactive for an extended period.
4. Your content
You retain full ownership of the presentations, slides, images, and any other content you upload to Handyout. You grant us a limited license to host, process, and display that content for the sole purpose of operating the service for you and your audience.
You confirm that you have the right to upload every piece of content you share with us and that doing so does not infringe on third-party rights, trademarks, or applicable laws.
You will not use Handyout to publish content that is illegal, defamatory, infringing, or that violates anyone's privacy.
5. Billing and credits
Handyout uses a pay-per-slide credit model. Credits are purchased in advance via Stripe and consumed when you generate a handyout.
Your first handyout is on us — no credits are used, regardless of the size of that first presentation.
Credit purchases are non-refundable except where required by applicable consumer law. Unused credits do not expire.
Prices and credit pack sizes may change. Any change applies only to credits purchased after the change takes effect.
6. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Planned maintenance is announced in advance. Unplanned downtime, when it happens, is communicated on our status updates.
Handyout is not designed as a system of record. Keep your original presentation files in your own storage.
7. Analytics, audience data, and consent by QR scan
Each handyout you publish is reached by audience users scanning a QR code or opening a link. By performing the scan, the audience user actively requests delivery of the handyout and gives informed consent (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO) to the data processing required to deliver that service — without a separate cookie banner in the viewer.
The processing this consent covers includes: a pseudonymous session identifier scoped to the handyout, slide-level engagement signals (visits, dwell time, scroll depth, navigation order, revisit rates), reactions and tap-level interactions on individual modules, comments left by the viewer, feedback submissions (sliders for understanding, actionability, relevance, overall rating, plus free-text and optional email), and bucketed device and language signals.
All of this data is aggregated in your analytics dashboard so that you can understand how your audience engages with what you publish. Audience users remain pseudonymous unless they voluntarily attach a name or email to a comment or feedback submission.
We do not sell audience data, run third-party advertising trackers, or profile audience members across the open web. Full details, retention periods, and rights of audience users are in the Privacy Policy.
As the presenter who publishes a handyout, you confirm that you have informed your audience appropriately about the data processing described above and that you have the right to share the underlying content with them.
8. Our intellectual property
The Handyout name, logo, UI, source code, and documentation are owned by Handyout. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute the platform itself, but you are free to share the handyouts you create with it.
9. Termination
You can close your account at any time. On closure, your presentations and published handyouts become inaccessible to your audience within a reasonable period.
We may terminate or suspend access without notice for material breaches of these terms, in particular content abuse, payment fraud, or attempts to compromise the platform.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Handyout is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — including loss of profits, revenue, data, or audience.
Our total liability for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of the service is limited to the credits you have paid for in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Exclusive venue for disputes is the competent court at the seat of the provider in Bavaria, Germany, unless mandatory consumer-protection rules require otherwise.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms over time. Material changes are communicated by email and announced on this page. Continued use of Handyout after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
